Sam Jackson

Senior Director of Operations

Sam directs day-to-day operations at Greentown Labs for both the member companies and the Greentown Team. Sam’s operations team takes care of the entire facility and its resources, most notably the machine shop, electrical test equipment, software, 3D printer, copy machine, electrical service, security and the two things that Greentown could not run without: coffee and the Internet. Sam strives to identify and provide additional tools and resources and make the Lab’s existing resources more reliable and accessible for member companies. He is also the Safety Officer at Greentown Labs and is responsible for bringing together safety representatives from each of the member companies to ensure that adequate precautions are taken for each new, revolutionary prototype. He wears many hats for the Greentown Labs team but specifically, he manages the budget, vendor contracts, invoicing, collections and hiring,

Sam came to Greentown after serving as a Naval Engineering Officer in the US Coast Guard for 15 years. During his service he was an engineering division officer on a ship; a drill instructor at Officer Candidate School; he has taught engineering, leadership and nautical science classes; he was an engineering project manager leading a department responsible for replacing major systems on the heavy ice-breaking and buoy tender fleets and an acquisition assistant. His knowledge of the governmental contracting process is another benefit that he brings to the Greentown Labs community.

Sam’s wife gets credit for discovering and introducing him to Greentown Labs after searching for organizations that were in areas of Sam’s main interests: renewable energy, engineering and entrepreneurship. Sam earned a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the US Coast Guard Academy and an MS in Mechanical Engineering from Tufts University. Sam lives in Sudbury with his wife, Lauren, and his three daughters. He loves running, sailing, being outdoors and spending time with his family.
