Matthew Nordan is a Managing Partner at MNL Partners. MNL develops energy and environmental projects in global markets, with a focus on China. Matthew has focused on breakthrough technologies for two decades as an investor, advisor, and analyst.

Prior to MNL, Matthew was a venture investor at Venrock, one of the world’s oldest and most successful venture capital firms. At Venrock, he drove investments in FINsix (power electronics) and Nest Labs (energy efficiency, acquired by Google for $3.2 billion), and worked closely with other portfolio companies on strategy, business development, and fundraising. Four of the nine companies in Venrock’s energy and environment portfolio became critically focused on China during Matthew’s tenure; he co-founded MNL Partners based on the belief that many other technology companies would do the same.

Before Venrock, Matthew was President of Lux Research, an advisory services firm for science-driven innovation that he co-founded in 2004. Under Matthew’s leadership, the Lux Research analyst team became a globally recognized authority on the business impact of emerging technologies, advising corporations, startups, financial institutions, and governments. Earlier, Matthew held a variety of senior management roles at emerging technology advisor Forrester Research (NASDAQ:FORR) in the U.S. and Europe.

Matthew has testified before the U.S. Congress four times on emerging technology issues, was a founding member of the World Economic Forum’s Global Agenda Council on Emerging Technologies, and is a widely sought-after speaker and commentator. He serves on the boards of FINSix, Sense Labs, Quidnet Energy, and Greentown Labs (the world’s largest cleantech incubator), and is Co-Founder and Chairman of the Investment Committee of PRIME Coalition, a pioneering nonprofit bringing philanthropic capital to energy innovation. Matthew graduated from Yale, where he conducted cognitive neuroscience research on emotion and memory.
