Mitsubishi Chemical Holdings Corporation Joins Greentown Labs as Terawatt Sponsor

Leading Japanese company in sustainability, health, and comfort solutions partners with cleantech incubator to strengthen its connection to global innovation ecosystem

Somerville, Mass., – March 29, 2018 – Greentown Labs, the largest cleantech startup incubator in the United States, and Mitsubishi Chemical Holdings Corporation (MCHC) today announced that MCHC joined Greentown Labs as its newest Terawatt Sponsor. The sponsorship will facilitate strong ties between MCHC and the Greentown Labs startup community, enabling opportunities for collaboration and partnership to support the advancement of clean technology innovation.

MCHC is creating solutions in fields including environment, energy, health, and medical care to improve both social and economic value under its original concept of KAITEKI.  KAITEKI represents a sustainable condition which is comfortable for people, society, and the Earth, transcending time and generations.

“The pace of global innovation has accelerated rapidly in the past few years, resulting in the transformation of a wide range of industries. Because such developments generally emerge from beyond the incumbents’ traditional point of view, it is important to establish partnerships that allow exploration at the frontiers of the latest business models and technologies. Greentown Labs has strong synergy with MCHC’s core strengths, KAITEKI philosophy, and aggressive approach to innovation,” said Dr. Larry Meixner, Managing Corporate Executive Officer, Mitsubishi Chemical Holdings. “We look forward to pairing our industrial expertise with Greentown Labs’ entrepreneurs to help drive their breakthrough technologies to market faster.”

Key elements of MCHC’s sponsorship include:

  • Corporate Innovation Day: As part of Greentown Labs’ engagement framework with corporate sponsors, the incubator will host a private, day-long event for MCHC executives to connect with the regional and national cleantech ecosystem, and receive presentations from Greentown Labs member companies with strong business relevance.
  • Startup Pitch Days: Once or twice a year Greentown Labs will coordinate a full day of meetings with startups within a specific technology sector that is of high interest to MCHC.
  • Advisory Board seat: MCHC will gain a seat on Greentown Labs’ Advisory Board which provides strategic guidance and input to the incubator on growth planning, partnership development, and other areas on a regular basis.

“Greentown Labs’ mission is to provide its startup member companies the resources they need to thrive and we know Mitsubishi Chemical Holdings’ expertise in sustainability and innovation will be an enormous asset to our community,” said Greentown Labs CEO Emily Reichert. “Their corporate philosophy is focused on contributing to a sustainable future for people and the planet, something our organization also cares deeply about and we always find partnerships with like-minded organizations to be so valuable.”

Greentown Labs offers nearly 100,000 sq. ft. of prototyping lab, wet lab, office space, a shared machine shop, and an electronics shop to its startups. Members of Greentown Labs gain access to a community of more than 70 like-minded cleantech startups and are immersed into a network of more than 45 local, national, and international strategic corporate partners. The Greentown Labs community will be celebrated at the Greentown Labs Global Center for Cleantech Innovation Grand Opening on May 9, 2018 in Somerville, MA; learn more about the event and register here.
